Tis the Season! A Local Gift Guide

It’s Christmas! Cue all the frenzied spending, pop up markets every week and just general excitement in the atmosphere. I usually use Black Friday as the perfect opportunity to get Christmas shopping done but there’s also a thrill that comes with finding a really great gift locally (it probably also has something to do with the fact that you don’t have to worry about extra costs courtesy your skybox.)

Here, I’ve rounded up a few gift options that you can get locally, which are sure to earn you points with friends and family.

Immortelle Beauty- Immortelle Beauty is perhaps my favorite local brand and my go to for everything and every occasion. This brand really lives up to its tagline of “A little local luxury” - from the packaging (which is pretty luxe) to the performing power of any of these items, I can sing its praises all day long.

I have been buying the esscentials set for years (I always buy their mini version for when I travel) and it makes a perfect gift (every year my mother requests this for Mother’s Day.) My favorite scents are the Pomelo + Coco and Agave + Hibiscus. There’s also the option of a candle (my favorite scent is Ambre), diffuser set or the foot rehab range of products.

Whatever you get, you can’t go wrong. You can get any of these products via their website (which also has a list of their stockists) www.immortellett.com or at their store (which is the ultimate experience) located at the Normandie Hotel. I also suggest following them on instagram so you can see what markets they are at for the Christmas season.

Coasters and decorative trays by Very Verde.

Very Verde TT - Another local brand I’m really impressed by. I first discovered this brand at the Carifesta Grand Market held this August when my brother was adamant on purchasing some succulents. Specialising in concrete and wooden designs, you can get your pick of home decor (I have my eye on an amazing side table), scented candles, clocks and even jewelry. The price points are pretty good and a quick browse on their website should show you the endless possibilities.

Cocobel Chocolates - Locally made chocolate of innovative flavors (think banana chocolate and grapefruit bark), Cocobel is the perfect gift for those with a sweet tooth. The packaging alone lets you know that something beautiful awaits you. You can find Cocobel at Medulla Art Gallery in Woodbrook. Follow them on instagram here.

Sinnamon Skin Rejuvenation Centre Gift Cards - I’ve been going to the Sinnamon Skin a few years now and always look forward to my appointment as the level of service and variety of high performing treatments never disappoint. Just in time for the Christmas Season, Sinnamon has made gift certificates available so you can gift an amazing experience to someone deserving in your life. Last year I gifted some of these certificates and they were the most well loved of any of the gifts I bought for the season so of course I’m going to repeat this year. Follow their instagram page here.

Koko Karibi Jewelry - for the jewelry lover in your life, this is a great choice. I’m always amazed at the level of creativity and detail that goes into these pieces. From dainty studs to more statement earrings and necklaces, these are great pieces to add to any collection. Follow them here.

L’eau Pont Winery Sorrel Port - Wine is always a great idea and this sorrel port is pure perfection, especially for the Christmas Season! L’eau Pont Winery is a family owned business that specializes in fruit wines of various flavors -pomerac and mango are also on their lineup.

They’re available at Uncorked Wines and Spirits, Happy Gourmet in Valpark Plaza and will also be attending a few Christmas pop up markets. Follow them on instagram here.

The Baking Academy Gift Card - The Baking Academy is one of those spaces that offer an amazing experience every time.Year round, they host classes for everyone, from children to upcoming pastry chefs and even the basic level cook who just wants to try something new. A gift certificate is a great way to introduce someone to this experience if they haven’t been already or just to give them the chance to try a new class or program on their own time. They can be bought directly at the academy. See their website here for more info.

Caribbean Airlines Gift Certificate - As a travel lover, I couldn’t help but mention this. You can buy these in any value and therefore contribute to a loved one’s travel costs. It should be noted though, that the gift certificate is only valid for one year and the value of it must be used all at once.

I hope you enjoyed this little roundup and that I provided some ideas as you head out shopping for your gifts over the course of the season. I’m always on the lookout for new local products so let me know of any brands that have caught your eye. Thanks for reading!
